Provide a Calathea with moderate light.  Place in a bright north window or two feet from a sunny east window.  Direct sunlight will make the leaf color less attractive and possibly burn the foliage.

High humidity is essential to a Calathea.  Increase the humidity by placing the plant on a tray of pebbles, placing it around other plants and misting it with soft water daily.

Calatheas need to be kept and 60 degrees to 70 degrees Fahrenheit..  If you keep your room at 70 degrees or more you will need to mist the leaves more often.

Water every three days to keep soil evenly moist.  Extended dryness causes dead leaf tips.  The water should be room temperature.

Check the Calathea every spring to see if it needs repotting. If roots have wrapped around the bottom of the plant, move the plant into the next size pot.
